Day Fourteen - love always perseveres

Whoo hoo!!!  We made it!  Fourteen days of breaking down 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.  There were days when I thought - holy heck, God, this is a little tough to hear!  And, granted, it was but it's given me so, SO much to think about!  I'm not saying I won't screw this all up - cause I will! - but if that small voice will say, "do you think you are showing love?" and cause me to react differently, then it's all been worth it!

Oh, and before I forget, Happy Valentine's Day!  Now let's get to the good stuff!
Day fourteen - love always perseveres.  As always, let's look up what perseveres actually means...  Google defines it as to continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.  Hmmm...let's think about that - continue loving in the face of trying times with no hint of reconciliation...  Better yet, let's see what other Bible translations tell us:  love never looks back, but keeps going to the end (The Message), love never quits (Easy-to-Read Version), patience never fails (Good News Translation), love always stands your ground in defending (Living Bible), love endures through every circumstance (New Living Translation), and love endures no matter what (The Voice).

What do I take away from this?  I think to persevere means to love someone even if you don't like them very much right now.  We are human.  We are going to make mistakes, we are going to hurt someone's feelings, we are going to make someone mad.  The same things will happen to us.  To love someone and to be loved doesn't mean that you allow yourself to be walked all over.  To love and be loved means looking past what's currently happening to the hope of what could happen in the future.  Don't give up - don't ever give up.  Love is ALWAYS worth it!

Let's see what else the Bible has to said about perseverance.

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4 (NIV)

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

James 1:12 (NIV)

As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about.  The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

James 5:11 (NIV)

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
2 Peter 1:5-7 (NIV)

    1. That's so true! And, it's a great way to show them that, yes, people are going to get upset with you and at times not like you very much, but the people that truly love you will love you regardless. You are such a good mama!!!
