Day Twelve - love always trusts

Welcome back!  We are definitely in the home stretch with only three more days of our love challenge.  Have you been surprised by any of the days so far?  It's no secret that I've been convicted but I kinda like it!  If we aren't growing and trying to do better, then what's the point, right?
Day twelve - love always trusts.  Let's check out the handy-dandy Google to see how trust is defined:  firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. And, better yet, let's see what other translations of the Bible describe this aspect of love as - love puts up with anything, trusts God always (The Message), love never stops trusting (Easy-to-Read Version), love always believes in (Living Bible), and love never loses faith (New Living Translation).

So, what does this really mean?  Again, I was smacked in the head with ways that I need to love better in this very area.  Love means believing a person is innocent until they prove that they are guilty.  Recently our son let us down by not being truthful.  Unfortunately, I'm the type of person that will immediately shut down once my trust has been broken. Rather than get hurt again, I'll just remove myself from that person.  Now, I didn't do this with my son, but I did have a hard time (and still do at times) believing anything that he was telling me.  This is not love.  The loving thing would have been allowing him to earn my trust again.  It's true - people will live up to the expectations that you have for them.  If you believe they are a liar, they will eventually get tired of telling the truth when no one believes them and revert to lying.  But, if I set my standards high and show my son how much truth is valued, he will (hopefully!) want to tell the truth.

But I believe the biggest way that we can love by trusting is how we show love towards our Savior.  We have to trust that His ways are far better than our ways.  As I was perusing Pinterest, I came across this quote and I thought it was too perfect not to share.
To love is to trust.  Let's see what else the Bible tells us about trust.

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:10 (NIV)

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

Psalm 28:7 (NIV)

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.

Psalm 37:4-6 (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

Luke 16:10 (NIV)
