Day Two - love is kind

Yeah!  You're back!  I think we can all agree - day two might just be the easiest day of this challenge!
Phew!  I think I've got this!  Our friend, Google, describes kind as having or showing a friendly, generous, and considerate nature.  It also mentioned caring, affectionate, loving, and warm.  But kindness is also not a pushover.  Sometimes love is hard and hard decisions must be made because you care - because you are kind.  And, here's a little something else to think about:
And just like yesterday, six out of the seven translations that I used listed kind as the second characteristic.  Only The Message worded it different.  It said, "Love cares more for others than for self."  And, that is so true.  We are kind to our children because we love them.  We will do without so that they don't have to.  We will forgo eating hot food that has just been sat in front of us at a restaurant so that someone can go potty (are my kids the only ones that do this?!).  Maybe I'm giving myself too much credit but coming back to eat after wiping someone's tush definitely counts as kindness in my book!  :)

Enough about my thoughts, here are some additional verses from the Bible about being kind:

Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.

Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)

It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

Proverbs 14:21 (NIV)

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

Luke 6:35 (NIV)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

2 Timothy 2:24 (NIV)

Thanks again for joining me on this love challenge!  Starting tomorrow and the seven days after that, we we learn all about what love is NOT!  See you tomorrow!

Have a blessed day!  Gig 'em and God bless!

  1. Thanks so much for this. I really needed to read it after having to confront a teacher on poor performance (I'm an administrator at an Arabic school).

  4. You're so right, being kind is easy, but being kind to the unkind/ungrateful is a bit harder in my book! God always has a way of challenging us to get out of our comfort zone to shine his light. And when I listen to his command even if I don't want to, it makes me realize how AMAZING Jesus really was while on this Earth...being kind to everyone that He crossed paths with even when treated horribly by non-believers. I can't even imagine!!

    1. And He sought out the un-loveable by society's standards. What a beautiful example to us (even when it takes us out of our comfort zones!).
