Friday Favorites: Home Improvement edition

While I'm Waiting...Friday Favorites: Home Improvement edition
Last Tuesday Mike mentioned that he was taking off Friday through Wednesday.  He had vacation days that he needed to take before the end of April or he would lose them. So...what's a great way to spend your "vacation"?!  Helping your wife transform a room that she's been dreaming about for YEARS!  :) Seriously, he loves this stuff! Well, actually, he just doesn't like to pay someone for something that we can do (even if it takes us twice as long - and I'm convinced we spend just as much money!).  We wanted to start last Friday but that didn't happen.  We went shopping for furniture on Saturday and finally started working on the room Sunday afternoon.

What are we doing?  Well, we are converting our dining room to a second living room for the kids.  This room has sat empty for the eight years that we've lived in our house.  I figure if we haven't used it as a dining room in eight years we might as well change it to something that we can use.  I've had plenty of people tell me that this isn't a good idea, but you know what?  It doesn't matter - it's something that works for our family!  I'm geeked out excited about how this room is coming together!  So...if you want to do something a little different in your own home - I say, GO FOR IT!  Personalized spaces are my FAVORITE!

Here's a little sneak peak - check back for a full reveal coming soon!

So, this week's Friday FAVORITES are based on my week spent working on this room - a Home Improvement edition of my FAVS!
Mike - I LOVE when we work together on projects.  Granted, it's not all hugs and kisses and sooner or later someone will irk the other one but there's just something about working together that makes me fall in love with him all over again!
Oh, happy day!!!  I was so glad to see these diamonds disappear!!! (and what is it about a guy wearing a backward ball cap - swoon!)
This was the scene in our garage!  Everything, top to bottom, in the dining room has been repainted.  Even the shutters and doors.  Bless this man!  Do you see why he's my FAVORITE?!
Hope was "helping" him put together furniture.  I think she was just tightening the string that she has him on!  :)

Lowe's - We have made approximately 1,639 trips to Lowe's the past couple of days - ok, not really, but it feels like it!  :)  Thankfully, the nearest Lowe's is just under 5 miles away so the trips are quick and easy.
night or day - doesn't matter - Lowe's is our FAVORITE store this week!  :)

STAAR testing is O-V-A!!! - This has nothing to do with home improvement but we celebrated Colby and Holden wrapping up testing for this year.  I don't enjoy the stress and anxiety that the tests bring out but I do love having little goodies for the kids to find when they wake up!

I recently posted on ways to wish your kiddos Good Luck during exams - these were my take on a few of the ways I had listed.  My FAVORITE part of this week is that they don't have to worry about these tests any more this year!

My sweet friend, Sara, shared this Instagram post with me.  Teachers like this are my FAVORITE!

happy mail - I was super excited to receive some happy mail this week!  A while back I saw this tassel on Hi Sugarplum's blog (Cassie is one of my FAVORITE bloggers)!.
I knew I just HAD to have it so I went to order it - but it was back ordered. :(  I waited and waited and it finally was available.  You can find the tassel here!

I LOVE the little splash of color that it adds to my Mamuye tote! #daretomix

'it's a nice day to be nice'
While waiting on paint to dry, I would catch up on my reading.  One of my FAVORITE articles that I came across was this story (even if it is a few years old).

It's a nice day to be nice!  Happy Fri-YAY!

Have a fabulous weekend!  Gig 'em and God bless!

    1. Thanks, Katie! I'm hoping to bring most of it together this weekend. We have two large bookshelves and I'm not much on decorating (I'll just have to find a picture that I can use as inspiration!) ;) And, the tote is perfection! It's the perfect size and the handles are the perfect length! I'm thinking it will even get better with age! Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend!

    2. This makes me laugh talking about progress to your bestie via text messages and pictures! My bestie has been living thru our huge remodel since January of this year. I think she will be happy when it is FINALLY done! (but really, are we ever done?)

    3. The answer is NO - we are never done!!! :) We've got this room looking SO good but then we turn around and realize how much everything else needs to be freshened up! Aren't besties the greatest?! Don't know what I would do without Shelly!

    4. Yes they are! Mine is my decorator, my bestie and the person I can vent to about ANYTHING and she never judges me! She just lets me vent and then will tell me if she thinks I am wrong. HAHA

  5. I can't wait to see your reveal! I think the dining room is such a wasted space in most houses. We use ours just a few times per year. I have even seen some newer floor plans that make a bigger kitchen dining area and leave the formal out completely.

    1. Thanks, Tanya! The dining room was absolutely a wasted space for us but I think it's about to get a LOT of use!!! I think having a larger every day space for eating makes way more sense! Thanks for stopping by and for your encouraging words! Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, JulieAnn! The kiddos love getting little happy-s here and there. Anything that takes their mind off those tests works for me! :) The room is slowly (but surely!) coming together. Still waiting on a couple of chairs to pull it all together! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  11. Hi Holly! We changed our dining room to a Kids Den 14 years ago (when our kids were still at home and young) and we have NEVER regretted it! Recently, we began a huge remodel and we did take off the solid bi-fold doors that kept noise IN the room, because I wanted it to be more open. I renamed the Kids Den to Mom's Den a few years ago when my youngest went off to college! Having repainted it, new shutters and moving all my furniture around, makes me love this room every day! I love to sit in there, watch neighbors walk by and watch all my reality shows! Also, I love Lowes and I have one close by too! Have a great week!

    1. That's so good to know, Kim!!! It's only been a few days and we don't even have a tv in there yet but I can already see that this was the BEST decision we've ever made!!! I can't wait to pull it all together! Mike and I were sitting in there last night (admiring our work!) :) and he said, "this might be OUR new room"! How fun that you have your own room! I'm hoping our office is next and I'm claiming that space 100% MINE! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a great week!
