Liebster Award

Recently I was nominated by, not one but, TWO Katies for the Liebster Award.  Katie from Better Off Benedict and Katie from Queen of the Kings were so sweet to think about me!  Thank you, ladies and heartfelt thanks for nominating me!

So, are you wondering exactly what a Liebster Award is?  It's a blogging award that has been going around the blogosphere for some time.  You can read all about it here.  It's about showing some of your favorite blogs some love and getting to know each other a little better.  I'm all for bloggers supporting bloggers - that's what makes this journey so fun!  Make sure you go check out both Katies - you won't be disappointed!  They're awesome!

Here are the questions that each asked along with my answers:

1. What was the first blog you read?
I don't remember the very first blog post I ever read but I'm fairly certain that Pinterest Told Me To was the first blog I started following on a regular basis followed quickly by Andrea at Momfessionals. I love their little circle of friends!

2. Which bloggers inspire you the most?
I love to read posts about real people living out loud.  What does that mean?  It means people doing what they love.  My favorite is when I read a post and it stays with me long after I finish reading it.  I love reading about people serving others.  I love to be challenged.  A couple of my favs are Shelly at Queen in Between because, well, she's my bestie and I love doing life with her, and Cassie at Hi, Sugarplum - that girl can do it all - craft, decorate, all while looking amazing (at prices I can afford!).

3. Why did you start your blog?
What a great question!!!  Over the last few years, I have started at least three (that I can remember!) blogs but each time I would give up.  Seriously, who wants to read what I have to write about?!  But, I get so much inspiration from others that I thought if I could pass that along to just one other person then I would call it a success.  You can read one of my first posts here where I really lay my heart on the line.

4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I honestly can't imagine living any where else!  I LOVE living here and joke that if we ever move it's cause we got kicked out of College Station!  This is home for us!

5. What is your dream vacation?
I know this might sound silly but I would love to rent an RV and just start driving!  There are so many places in the US that I would love to see!

6. What are you proud of?
In August, Mike and I will celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary!  There have been many ups and just as many downs but each time we fought our way back.  Marriage isn't easy but I couldn't imagine my world without him in it.  I'm proud of the three kiddos that we have and the two angels we have in heaven.  I didn't (and still don't) know what I wanted to be when I grew up but the one thing I knew without a shadow of a doubt was that I wanted a family - and our little family of five is all I ever wanted and more.

7. What is your favorite store?
Target...I can get just about everything I need there!  :)

8. What is something you must have/do each morning?
Ugh - it's terrible but I must have a Coke first thing each morning.  I'm not a coffee drinker but I know how they feel when they mention "don't talk to me till I've had my first cup of coffee"!

9. What are three things you never leave home without?
     * my cell phone * my wallet (most of the time!) * and usually at least one kiddo!

10. What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
During the fall, my most favorite thing to do is watch Aggie football!!!  Nothing better!

11. Who is your hero?
Hmmm...this is a hard one - there are so many people that I admire!  One of the first that comes to mind is Condoleezza Rice.  She is crazy smart (graduated high school at age 16, college at 19 and had her Ph.D. by 26!) and has held positions from Secretary of State, National Security Advisor, and most recently was selected to be on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.  She quietly leads by example and for that she has my greatest admiration.

12. What was your dream job when you were a child?
This sounds SO silly, but I can vividly remember wanting to be a jockey when I was little! Granted, I was probably already too tall at the time!  I have no idea why I wanted to do this - probably because it involved horses (cause what little girl doesn't dream of owning a horse!) and those outfits!  :)

13. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Oh, goodness - I have lots of them (I know, I know - I should just get over them!).  Let's see...biggest pet peeve...not being honest.  I would much rather have someone tell me the truth than to find out that I have been lied to.  There's really few things that feel worse.

14. What is your favorite food?  Favorite guilty pleasure food?
Easy - Mexican food!  You will never hear me turn it down!  I'm pretty basic in my likes - chips, queso, fajitas, soft tacos, cheese enchiladas with queso on top - yummy!  Now I'm hungry!!!  Favorite guilty pleasure food - anything chocolate (and I probably should re-list the queso since it's absolutely no good for me!).

15. How do you make time for yourself?
I really stink at this but would like to get better.  I love the time of night after everyone is in bed and the house is all quiet.  One of my most favorite thing to do is crochet baby hats and this is one of my favorite times to do that.  I haven't done it lately cause sleep has won out!  :)

16. What do you want your grand kids to know about you?
I want them to know that I loved God and loved people.  I want them to know how much I loved serving and that I used every bit of talent that I was blessed with.  And I want them to know how much I loved and was proud of their parents!

I would like to nominate the following fellow bloggers:
Jessica & Katie @ Sweet Little Ones
Michelle @ Grammie Time
Vanessa @ X-tremely V

Here are your questions if you would like to play along!
1. What are you really good at?
2. Why did you start your blog and where do you get inspiration for your posts?
3. Where is your favorite vacation spot?
4. Where do you see yourself in 25 years?
5. What is your favorite quote?
6. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
7. What are three words that would describe you?
8. What was your favorite toy as a child?
9. Do you ever get "writer's block" and if so, what do you do?
10.  Favorite season and why?

That was fun!  Thanks again, Katie and Katie for nominating me!
Have a fabulous day!  Gig 'em and God bless!
Holly

  1. Just finished reading all about you. I'm so glad you did this. When I follow a blog and these personal posts come along it makes me feel like I am getting to know a new friend in person over a cup of tea. Your answers are so genuine and that is one of the reasons I enjoy reading your blog. Thank you too for nominating me. I saw that at the end and my heart skipped a beat.
