Hope's 5th Birthday PAW-ty!

Hope's 5th Birthday PAW-ty - puppy themed birthday party on While I'm Waiting...blog
It's really hard to admit but our baby girl turned five this past weekend.  She had been counting down the days and was SO excited to hold up all five fingers!

We welcomed our dog, Maggie, into our home back in June and since then all Hope has wanted was a puppy PAW-ty for her birthday.  I loved the idea and couldn't wait to start brainstorming ideas searching Pinterest (honestly, this was probably the easiest party I've ever planned!).

We had the party at U Paint It, a local paint-your-own pottery studio.  Isn't the sign they made adorable?!

We were thrilled when Penny, the owner of the studio, said we could bring Maggie!  That was Hope's one request for her party - she just wanted Maggie there!

Wake up, Maggie!  We're about to PAW-ty!

Maggie was more concerned with everyone coming in the door rather than looking at me!

There were so many things I loved about this party!  I loved how easy it was to decorate with dog toys (who knew?!).  I also loved how inexpensive the decorations were (many items were purchased at the Dollar Tree for, you guessed it, $1!).
Hope's sister, Holden, recently attended a summer class at U Paint It and painted the dog bowl and little yellow lab.  The center piece was unbelievably simple - I just added tennis balls and dog bones!  And, see those brightly colored cupcakes?  They are squeaky dog toys!

I ordered her invitations from Etsy and had them printed at our local copy store.
Super duper easy!

Scooby Snacks were an easy option for snacks for the girls (they were not convinced that these weren't real dog bones!).

Chex Mix with M&M's added was the perfect combination for Kibbles & Bits (this was by far their favorite snack!).

I really wanted to label the water "Toilet Water" but I didn't think the girls would appreciate my humor!  :)  So, I settled for "Bow Wow Water".  In the background you can see Hope's Lucky Dog Adoption Center!

My friend, Martha, made the PUPcakes and dog bone cookies!  I love that I can send her a text with my theme and how many I need and she takes care of the rest!

When Hope's friends arrived, they picked out a dog to paint.  We were so lucky that there were so many different breeds to choose from!

The girls really did a great job painting.
PSA if you do a party like this in the future - have another activity (or two or three!) to do when they finish painting.  One friend claimed she finished painting about three minutes after she arrived and I thought to myself, "what the heck are we going to do with the next hour and twenty seven minutes?!"  No worries, I convinced her that her puppy needed a little more color!

Hope decided to paint her puppy like a dalmatian!

Oh, another favorite?  See those little dog bowls?!  They made perfect snack bowls for the girls!  This was a last minute thought.  So last minute that I sent my hubby out to get them about two hours before the party started!

She started out smiling but ended in tears.  Sometimes it gets a little embarrassing with everyone singing to you. #it'smypartyandi'llcryifiwantto

This is Holden and her friend, Kenzie.  I knew I would need help with the party and these two were awesome helpers - from helping the girls pick out their puppy to paint, to getting their paint palette set up, to bringing them snacks and water, to running the adoption center - they did it all!  Seriously, all I had to do was take pictures!
Hope's 5th Birthday PAW-ty - puppy themed birthday party on While I'm Waiting...blog
Hope's Lucky Dog Adoption Center was definitely the best part of the PAW-ty!
My original idea was that we would do the Adoption Center as the girls were leaving but since painting took WAY less time than I had planned, we made a bid deal about the adoption process and the girls loved it!  We had lots of different breeds of dogs and no two were alike.  Each girl got to choose a puppy to adopt and take home with her.  Holden has recently learned to sew so I asked her if she would make little "doggie bags" for the puppies to go in.  They turned out SEW cute! ;)

Holden and Kenzie helped each girl name their puppy and then had them sign their name promising to love and care for their new puppy!

Maggie was such a good sport when all the girls wanted to show her which puppy they chose!

Hope's favorite part - all the hugs she got from her friends!

Maggie's favorite part - checking out all the donations to the Aggieland Humane Society!

Donations in lieu of gifts was another favorite part of Hope's PAW-ty.  Honestly, our kiddos don't need anything.  Since Maggie was the reason that Hope wanted a puppy party, it was easy to broach the idea with her.  She knew Maggie came from a shelter and that there were other animals there that needed gifts more than she did.  There was a time or two that she would ask if the present was for her but she was never disappointed when we told her they were for the shelter.  We can't wait to deliver this basket full of goodies to our local shelter.  Another bonus?  All the decorations can be donated as well!

Here are a few pics that I snapped before her party.  I know, it's a shame she isn't more animated!

    1. Thanks, Sophia! Adopting Maggie made this idea much easier to bring up with her. Not sure she would have been too receptive had she not known where Maggie came from and the needs they have there. So glad you stopped by! Have a great weekend!

  3. I LOVE everything. single. detail. This is the cutest. I love the doggie bags Holden sewed. What a cute idea. So cute in fact, I want her to make me 8 for my class this year. Seriously! See I do Pet Week in the spring. And I have collected Beanie Babies for my students and they get to adopt one at the end of the week. It is a hit and I love the idea of the bags. So, would she be in? She has plenty of time and I WILL PAY HER. Won't even consider it if she doesn't accept payment. So you all figure out how much and email me. I would want the fabric to be pet themed also. Let me know what she thinks. I would need 8 all together.

    1. Thank you so much, Michelle! I love a theme! :) And, this one was super duper easy to come up with little plays on words! I can't wait to tell Holden that you would like to place an order! This is going to make her day! She's been dog sitting for people on our street and doing some sewing on the side in order to buy a backpack she is wanting. I'm sure she'll be up for an order but I'll double check when she gets home from school! Thank you so much! Re: the material - animal themed right? Any particular animals? Thanks again! I'll be in touch soon!
