People are my FAVORITE!

While I'm Waiting...people are my FAVORITE!
You know those days when you think, "really?!".  Those days when nothing goes right and everything goes wrong?  Nothing that really amounts to anything but little things that just bog you down and you get in a funk?  Well, I tried desperately to have a couple of those days lately but people have shown up in my life over and over and reminded me how good people are!  So, instead of my usual Friday Favorites, I wanted to share a few reasons why people are my FAVORITE this week!

{people that give are my FAVORITE}

For the last few months I've been working with the school food pantries at my bigs' two schools.  Each pantry is run solely on the generosity of others and can only continue if people give.  In addition to food, we also provide toiletries for kiddos in need. Travel/sample size shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.  After school started, one of the principals indicated that there was a desperate need for soap and deodorant.  My friend, Michele, and I started putting the word out.  We sent a message to our neighborhood, posted messages on our Facebook pages, spread the word through our PTO and then we waited...  And then people showed up BIG TIME!
Michele and I both have bins on our front porches for people to drop off donations at their convenience.  Donations have been dropped off every day this week!
We took the donations up to their schools and look at all this kindness!!!  These aren't just buckets full of toiletries - they are buckets full of love!  People that give are definitely my FAVORITE!

And, just a little PSA - schools across the country have students with these same basic needs.  Ever wonder how you can help?  The next time you are traveling and staying at a hotel, grab the toiletries and bring them home.  Check with your neighborhood school to see if they have a need.  It's an easy way to give back that doesn't cost you anything other than your time.  This is such a blessing to our kids!

{people that notice are my FAVORITE}
A few weeks ago Hope-y started Kindergarten.  She got dressed, we took a few pictures, and then headed to school.  I was ok (or so I thought!).  We walked in holding hands and then I felt the lump start to form in my throat, quickly followed by the stinking in my eyes. Dang it!  Then there came the tears.  My baby was starting Kindergarten and I was having a tough time.  I quickly wiped the tears away because I didn't want everyone else Hope to see my crying.  I kissed her goodbye and walked to my car and then the flood gates opened.  What in the heck?!  I wasn't prepared for this at all!  But, I guess that Shelly knew I was going to be a mess because she texted me, "a little happy in your mailbox".  When I got home I found this scarf with a note that was too cute not to share:
Holly - Hey sweet friend...here is a little something to brighten your day - or you can use it to dry your tears and keep you cozy as you curl up in a ball!  Love you!  Shelly
Receiving gifts is fun but this was way more than just a little happy.  Even though I thought I had everything under control, Shelly knew I was going to have a rough day and she acted on it.  The fact that she noticed absolutely made my day!  Thank you, Shelly!  You are my FAVORITE!

{people that are present are my FAVORITE}
My parents live three hours away.  With three busy kids, finding time to visit them is proving to be more and more difficult but we can always count on seeing them for Aggie game days. They usually come down on Friday night and stay through the weekend.  Colby plays football on Mondays so we can always count on them to stay through Tuesday just so they can see him play.  We absolutely love living in College Station but not having family around to watch your kiddos grow up can be the one drawback.  Having Dede and Pop Pop in town is definitely a FAVORITE!
They were at the game on Monday and got to see Colby throw three touchdown passes (one being the winning touchdown with less than thirty seconds left to play!). #proudmama #forgiveme It was a great team win - had the defense not held the other team, the offense wouldn't have had a chance to go back on the field.  Teamwork is also my FAVORITE!  ;)
This is one of my favorite pictures that I snapped of my dad last year.  He was just a little bit proud of his grandson on the field!  I have no idea how many pictures/video he took!

And, just because I am a proud mama, I have to share a few more pictures of my FAVORITE #7 in action!
and he also punts and kicks off :)

On Wednesday night we had a BCS Bloggers meet up.  Kim from Hunt & Host was the hostess with the mostest and we were joined by Stephanie & Samantha from The Dish BCS, Katy from Queen of the Kings, and Gini.  We toured Kim's gorgeous home (seriously, check it out here!) and then we settled in for some wine, brownies, and blog talk!  It was so fun to ask questions, talk about what was working, what wasn't, and be encouraged.  I've been in a little bit of a blogging slump and these girls filled my soul!  People that share their hearts are definitely my FAVORITE!
#bloggerfail We didn't think about a group picture till Katy and I were walking out the door!  Next time, girls, we need a group picture!!!
And notice I'm wearing my FAVORITE scarf! :)

{people that follow their hearts are my FAVORITE}
I love to hear stories of people who have a passion for something and pursue it without abandon.  I wish that I was more like that!  Becky from Farm Girl Paints is someone who follows her heart.   She is an artist with dreams...big dreams!  I think I relate to her because my Holden loves to create and I see how much joy it brings her.

Becky uses her skills as an artist to create fabulous cuffs.  She makes these amazing bracelets that you can customize with words that mean something to you.  I have five of these beauties with another being made right now!!!  I've ordered at least ten more that I've given as gifts!  (Is there such thing as a cuff addiction?!)  Check them out for yourself! You can find her etsy shop here.  AND, Becky was sweet enough to give my readers a special promo code to use to receive 15% off your purchase.  Just enter fangirlhollym at checkout to receive the discount!

These are the first two box shots that Becky recently posted to Instagram.  These cuffs are already sold but it gives you some awesome inspiration and ideas on what you can make for yourself!  And here are the five that I've created over the last year or so!  You can read more about why these cuffs are my FAVORITE here

So, what about you?  Who is someone that is your FAVORITE?  Never underestimate how your actions could change someone's entire day!  I could have tanked more than once this week but thanks to some pretty amazing people, it's been a great week!

I hope you've had a week filled with your FAVORITE people, places, and memories!

Have a fabulous weekend!  Gig 'em and God bless!

  1. You are loved! I love Shelley's comforting words to you and her pick of the scarf, gorgeous. Okay, I can't believe you have those wonderful, talented bloggers so close to you to be able to meet. Jealous! How lucky you are to have that support. I'm praying for a group here in my hometown. There is one, and I've contacted them, but as usual (and I say that with a smile) no one gets back to you. There are so many times I wish I could just bounce blog ideas, frustrations, etc. off on someone who gets it. Consider yourself lucky to have a blogger group. Great post Holly.

    1. It truly is, Alexis! We hold so much power. We can either tear someone down or build them up and most of the time the only difference is a few words. I was blessed so much this week - now it's time to pay it forward! Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you so much, JulieAnn! For the longest time I didn't give because I didn't think I had enough to give (does that even make sense?!). But once I realized I could give of my time, talents, and maybe stuff I have laying around the house - it all made perfect sense! Sadly, so many kiddos are in need and they don't want to tell anyone. I hope they know how much people care about them! Thank you so much for your sweet words!

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet words! I feel like we have the opportunity to be so "connected" in today's age but sometimes it can feel so lonely. So, it really does feel great to be noticed. It was a great reminder for me too! Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a super day!

  12. Wow, I really needed this today! I've been having one of those weeks that nothing seems to go right so reading about how much GOOD there is in the world was just the ticket. I loved all of your stories... especially about your sweet friend who thought of you on your babies first day of school or how your parents come down just for little man's games. So sweet. Thanks for sharing at this weeks Welcome Home Wednesday link up! Can't wait to see what you share this Wednesday!
