14 acts of kindness to celebrate Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day - it's a very polarizing holiday.  Either you love it or your hate it!  But, regardless of how you feel about the holiday, you can still make a difference - in your life AND the life of someone else!  These 14 acts of kindness are guaranteed to make you love celebrating Valentine's Day!

1.  Share the love with words!
All you need is post-it notes and a pen to complete this act of kindness!  Look for places to leave an encouraging word for someone to find!

2.  Share the love with popcorn!
Lots of people will be grabbing movies to celebrate a night in since restaurants will be over crowded.  Why not surprise someone with a bag of popcorn at the Redbox machine?

3.  Share the love by volunteering!
Grab a friend and volunteer together!  Time with friends makes everyone happy.  It's a proven fact (in our family at least!) that volunteering with friends is WAY more fun than going alone!

4.  Share the love by leaving a surprise for someone to find!
Head to your local park and leave chalk sticks for other kiddos to find!

5.  Share the love by giving money {maybe}!
Leave a lottery ticket on a gas pump - wouldn't it be fun if the person who found it was actually a winner?!

6.  Share the love with food!
Since it will be Valentine's Day there will be lots of couples out celebrating.  Why not choose a couple to bless by secretly paying for their meal?  It's fun to watch their surprise from across the room!
You can also surprise people in the drive thru line!

7.  Share the love with candy!
Grab a bag of candy and pass it out to anyone working today!  Sometimes it's just the pick-me-up they need to finish their shift!

8.  Share the love by thanking those who serve!
Take a basket of goodies to your local fire station, police department, doctors office, etc.

9.  Share the gift of surprise!
Grab a few quarters and let your kiddos load up the toy machines for other children to find!

10.  Share the love with flowers!
Grab a boutique of flowers and challenge your kiddos to hand the flowers out to someone they think looks like they could use a smile.

11.  Share the love to pets!
Do you have a friend whose pet is their Valentine?  Why not ding DOG ditch them with a bag of bones?

12.  Share the love with cards!
Have kiddos make Valentines and deliver them to your nearest senior citizen center or assisted living facility!

13.  Share the love with snacks!
Hospitals are a great place to do this!  Leave change at a vending machine for someone to find later.  Guaranteed to make someone's day!

14.  Share the love with those who teach!
Little gifts (I refer to them as "happies") for those who pour into our kiddos all day are always fun to give.  And, what teacher ever has enough Clorox wipes?!
You can either choose a kindness act to complete each day leading up to Valentine's Day, or complete one (or 14!) acts on the actual holiday.  Doesn't matter - just make it your goal to make someone else's day - and you too will be blessed!
I hope you have an extraordinary Valentine's Day!
Thanks for stopping by!  Gig 'em and God bless!

  3. I've done a variation of this for the last few years now. It started because I was sick of being a sad, single person on Valentine's Day. So, I got a bunch of roses and handed them out to random strangers all day. It was fun and the responses were heartwarming! Random acts of kindness are so much fun!

    1. Ah, Kari! I love that you turned a situation around and blessed others! I even bet there were those who felt like you did but you turned their day around with a simple act of kindness! Keep doing good! You are making a difference!

  4. Holly, I love these! A long time ago, God helped me realize that on a day all about love, we should really focus on spreading God's love to others-so it's been fun to do different things like volunteering at a homeless shelter or pray with others at church. It's also my Baptism Anniversary, so V-Day has always had that extra special meaning and celebratory aspect to it :)

  5. We had a first on Monday! Another couple paid for our lunch at our favorite Lunch place, Hazels! They were friends of ours, but we have never had someone else pick up a check before! Its usually Tony who likes to do that! It was so sweet and so unexpected! Made our whole day! and no, we were not having lunch together ....they came in after us and were sitting at another table. I love random acts of kindness!

    1. Aren't they the best?! It happened to Mike and I years and years ago when we were in college. Random stranger picked up our tab at an airport restaurant. We were blown away. I wish I could thank them - they are the reason I love to spread kindness to this day! I'm so glad that you were blessed! So much fun! Thank you for sharing with me!!! I love stories like that!
