Holly Beach, Louisiana

While I'm Waiting...Lake Charles, Louisiana - Holly Beach
When I was looking up things to do in or around Lake Charles, I came up with two options: 1) the Creole Nature Trail All American Road and 2) visiting Holly Beach. #becauseduh

Thankfully, one of the routes for the Creole Nature Trail road led us straight to Holly Beach! We were hoping to see some alligators on our 45 minute drive but the only one we saw happened to be on the golf course at our hotel!

As we drove up to Holly Beach, I was worried that we had made a big mistake.  There weren't many cars around and the few areas we saw to access the beach had water on them.  We kept driving down the beach road and finally found a spot where we could drive on to the beach (perfectly acceptable at Holly Beach).

There were a few beach houses but not many people.

I giggled when I heard this area was referred to as the "Cajun Riviera."

It's not Destin but if you are near southern Louisiana and looking for a great place to run in the waves, build sand castles, and find amazing seashells, then this is your place!

Holly Beach is known for it's shelling.  We brought home quite a few treasures!

Mike {might} have gotten my car stuck in the sand on the beach but I'll never tell! ;)
Some of our treasures after we washed them.  I shared a few ways we could display our memories here

No one recommended we make a trip to Holly Beach but I'm so glad we did! Do you have a place you love to visit that's off the beaten path?  These are some of my favorite places to visit!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Gig 'em and God bless!

  1. We love to hike so just about anywhere is off the beaten path lol. We do love pulling off into national parks on road trips. We can picnic and let G run.

    1. Haha! So true, Kristy! When we went to Vegas last year, Mike and I hiked to the Hoover Dam. He thought I had lost my mind when I suggested it but it ended up being one of our favorite days!

    1. The shells were gorgeous. We found some even prettier ones but they weren't complete. We kept hoping we would find just one that wasn't broken but no such luck. It would be so much fun to go back!

    1. When I asked the girl at the front desk of our hotel she said, "well, it's not as nice as Galveston." Maybe my expectations were low but I thought, what have we got to lose?! We were pleasantly surprised and would definitely make a trip there again! Let me know if you guys go and what you think!

  8. I've always wanted to travel to Southern states. So far I've only visited New York, DC and Philadelphia. I need to save money to get plane tickets :)

  9. The "Cajun Riviera"? That is a funny one. I guess a beach is a beach. Bet you it is a popular place during summer.

    1. Isn't that hilarious?! I giggled when I saw it! I'm not sure that all beaches are created equal...Holly Beach isn't fancy but if you are only a couple of hours away and need some waves, sand, and shells - then it definitely will do!

  10. Thanks for reviewing this. Our family has decided to take a family vacation every year (for a group Christmas present) instead of buying a lot of gifts that we don't really need. Spending time together is the best Christmas gift. We can take it anytime during the year - usually September. We are in the process of deciding where we are going this year - I will looking into Holly beach for our group vaca. Thanks

    1. Absolutely! I love your idea of giving the gift of time with family as your Christmas gifts! I've been trying to get my family on board with this forever! We truly don't need more stuff but we can never have enough time together! I would definitely add Holly Beach to your list of places to visit if you are going to be near Lake Charles! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a great vacation!!!
