destination: Sneakercon

road trippin' - destination: Sneakercon in Dallas, TX

Another weekend, another road trip logged!  This past weekend saw our party of five load up and head to Dallas for Sneakercon!  What's Sneakercon, you ask? Only the "greatest sneaker show on Earth"!  If you have kids that LOVE sneakers, ask them about it.  I'm sure they've heard about it!  But, more on that in just a bit.  Here's a little recap of our weekend trip...

Traveling with three kids can be, well, challenging!  Three kiddos that are COMPLETELY different ages with COMPLETELY different interests can get interesting!  Since Holden is my artist loving one, I always make sure to Google  "(name of city) street murals" and go straight to the images tab. (I'm a visual learner!) ;) I'll scroll through and pick a few that I think she would like and then I use my Google Maps app to plug in addresses to see if they happen to be close to where we are going.  Then I sweet talk my driver (aka, Mike!) into getting us to all these places - most with non-existent parking!  We lucked out with these two awesome murals being super close to our dinner plans for Friday night!!!

A mural of multi-colored hearts?!  Yes, please!

To avoid getting our car towed, the guys waited in the car for us while we went and snapped a few fun pics!

We jumped back in the car and headed to what ended up being our FAVORITE mural of the weekend...

"Super Deluxe" mural by Ricardo Paniagua - 3699 McKinney Ave., Dallas

This is the "Super Deluxe" by Ricardo Paniagua and pictures don't do it justice!  It's absolutely gorgeous in person!

"Super Deluxe" mural by Ricardo Paniagua - 3699 McKinney Ave., Dallas

It's located at 3699 McKinney Ave., in Dallas in the parking lot/garage behind LOFT.  The mural is in a covered parking area with indirect light but you do have to stand in the middle of the two-way road to snap pics.
Totally worth it if you ask me! ;)

I'm so thankful for this sweet girl!  She has inspired and encouraged me to look for art all around us!

Our dinner plans included meeting up with one of my dearest, sweetest friends, Jennifer.  We have been friends since grade school (my first sleepover was at her house!).  She was even responsible for me playing tennis in high school - who am I kidding, she played tennis, I was more interested in getting a tan! :)  Love every chance that I get to see and catch up with her (and she's so patient to put up with our crew!).

And sometimes your husband photobombs your picture!

After dinner, we continued on to our hotel.

Hope approved of the kid room!

Are our kids the only ones who lose their minds when they get to a hotel?!
I swear ours act like we never take them anywhere!

Tiff's Treats

There was a Tiff's Treats within walking distance of our hotel so we enjoyed a nightcap of milk and cookies (and ice cream)!

After a good night's rest, it was time for SNEAKERCON!!!

But first an outfit change...

For the record, I liked the first outfit better... #thethingswedoforourkids

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX

Sneakercon opened at noon but we were in line and waiting by 11:20 am.  The line was out the door and wrapped around inside the parking garage.  It took us over an hour to get inside!  #craziness  At Sneakercon you can buy, sell, and/or trade sneakers.  I saw a guy pulling a wagon of sneakers!!!

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX

Colby LOVED that I asked them to stop for a pic! #Ichangedmyoutfitforyou #stopandSMILE! :)

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX w/BoostGOD

In addition to all the shoes, there were also popular YouTube guys - here is Colby with BoostGOD.  Companies send them sneaker gear so that they will pub them on YouTube - how can I get a gig like that?!  :)

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX w/NameBran

And this is NameBran - his YouTube is devoted to destroying sneakers...  Let me let that sink in...  Yes, I said he destroys sneakers and kids think it's awesome!

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX w/NameBran

He's run over them with trains, deep fried them, filled them with slurpies and more - proof that maybe you shouldn't stop your kids from dreaming (but encourage them to watch their language).

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX

Y'all, there were so.many.people!  We were probably only one of a handful of families there - the majority were boys aged 12-16.  And they were spending a LOT of money!!!

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX

This was the Trading Pit where you could buy, sell, and/or trade your Sneakers.  I didn't actually go in because, well, I'm not going to pay a couple hundred dollars for used sneakers. #sneakersnob #sorrynotsorry

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX

Rows and rows and rows of sneakers.  I saw them priced as low as in the hundreds and upwards of $800 and more!  No joke!!!

destination: Sneakercon, Dallas, TX w/Qias Omar & Ahmed Mahmood

These guys were one of the main attractions.  Qias Omar and Ahmed Mahmood are LA based YouTubers who share videos, blogs, and reviews on all things sneakers.  Their line was over an hour wait!  So, what's a mom to do?  I stood in line while Colby finished looking around Sneakercon.  He joined me just a few minutes before we made it to the front of the line.  This was one happy kid!

Oh, and in case you are wondering, there are "rules" at Sneakercon! :) #butapparentlynoonefollowsthem

Even in the middle of Sneakercon, he still manages to hold hands with Hope!

Because we felt like we hadn't walked/stood enough for one day, we decided to check out Nebraska Furniture Mart!  Holy heck - if you are building a house, it's like a one-stop shop!  Still a good stop if you are just looking but we did get overwhelmed!  So.much.stuff!  But, the good news is that we have ordered a kitchen table and it should be here in a few weeks!  Can't wait!!!

Nebraska Furniture Mart - The Colony, TX

Obviously, everyone knows I only have a kitchen because it came with the house but even I swooned over all these KitchenAid mixers!!!  Look at all those pretty colors!

We finally made it back to our hotel and Holden couldn't wait to try out her "Feezy" (fake Yeezy!) slippers!  You should have seen Colby's big eye roll but Holden LOVES these shoes!!!

Up bright and early on Sunday for a little Sunday Funday at Speed Zone.  Remember when I mentioned that it's hard with our age span and interests?  There was definitely something for everyone here!

Little miss was super excited that they had cars that she could drive!

It's a shame she isn't having any fun!  #haha

Not only was Speed Zone fun, we were also treated to all the incoming planes at Love Field!  I lost count how many times I heard, "Mom, there's another airplane!"

About 30 seconds into our go cart rides, I was wondering if Hope riding with Holden was a good idea.  Absolutely no clue how she didn't get car sick!!!

I was smart and got the car in the back because #nobumping #andmyfamilyareNOTrulefollowers!

Checking off one more thing on our summer bucket list!

The boys decided to try out the Slick Trax - think zero traction and lots of spin outs!

Sweet girls waiting on the boys so they can go inside and play games!

Draper James - Highland Park, TX

After Speed Zone, I had Mike drop me by Draper James in Highland Park so that I could pick up a new button for my Love Y'all bag and also get a little happy for our house/pet sitter!

The Truck Yard - Greenville/Dallas

Then we wrapped up our day with burgers and bottle Coca-Colas at the Truck Yard in the Greenville area of Dallas.  This little area is so fun and quirky!  It's described as a "complex housing food trucks in an expansive, retro outdoor space with a tree house and trailer bars."  The kids loved that it was dog-friendly and Mike and I loved that it was shady!

Hope convinced Mike that she needed ice cream...

Steel City Pops - Dallas, TX

while the rest of us convinced him we needed popsicles!

pound|for|pound - Dallas, TX

And, it's only fitting that we ended our Sneakercon weekend at a sneaker store.  Colby had heard about pound|for|pound while we were at Sneakercon and just HAD to check it out.  It's a consignment store for sneakers - again, you can't make this stuff up!

pound|for|pound - Dallas, TX

Back during the Spring when our family sat down to talk about things we wanted to do this summer, Sneakercon was one of the only things that Colby asked to do.  It wasn't something that we normally would have sought out to do but I'm so glad we went.  There might have been snarky words said, a few eye rolls, and enough "stop touching me" to make me want to scream but road trips with this crew will always be my favorite.  Three more years till Colby goes to college and don't think it's lost on me that he actually wants to still hang with us.  He's already asking to go to Sneakercon 2018 and I'm making a note now to make sure we get tickets!

Have you ever gone to an event out of your comfort zone simply because your kiddo wants to go?  I would love to hear what you guys have been up to! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hope you guys are having a great week!
