Friday Favorites!

While I'm Waiting...Friday Favorites!

Hello, Friday!  I've been looking forward to seeing you all week!  Phew - it's been a doozy of a week!  Just the typical family schedule but it did have me feeling a little frazzled this week.  On Tuesday, it was after 9pm when I finally pulled into our driveway.  What.a.day!  But, on Wednesday, I was going through pictures and came across a few of the kids doing what they love.  Perfect timing and a great reminder!  Definitely made me look back and realize they really are happiest when they are where they feel they belong.  So, in other words, it was just the internal pep talk I needed to get me through a long week!

Homecoming 2017 - traditions both new and old

Homecoming Traditions - both new and old!

Homecoming - a spirit-filled week of activities leading up to the Homecoming football game and typically followed by a Homecoming dance.  Growing up in Texas, some things stay the same, and some things take on a mind of their own (I blame Pinterest - but also am so thankful for Pinterest, in times like this!). There are dates and events that, no matter how old you are, you can look back on and remember - Homecoming is definitely one of these events!

This past weekend was Colby's Homecoming.  Last year as a freshman, he opted not to participate in any of the Homecoming festivities.  Truthfully, I was a bit bummed on Homecoming night seeing all the pictures on social media of all the kids and their dates.  But, I only had to wait one year till he decided he wanted to ask a friend to Homecoming.

What a GREAT weekend!

On Thursday evening, Mike and I were in the stands at Colby's football game. We knew my parents were coming but we were in for the best surprise!!!  My niece, Christian, and her sweet baby, Elliott, were surprising us with a visit!  I saw them walking up and I was in complete disbelief.  Elliott is 2 months old but the last time we saw her she was only 5 days old.  That's a long time for anyone but especially for a baby who changes so quickly!

Tears filled my eyes and I quickly went and scooped her up!

Press On

It's never lost on me the title that I chose for my blog (or maybe the title chose me!).  Waiting seems to be a constant in my life - and I'm learning to be ok with that.  Because it's in those moments, those uncomfortable times when nothing seems "right", that I look back and realize I learned the most.

So many times during the past few months, I have ached to blog.  To have the time and energy to share what's been going on but it wasn't the smart choice. My tag line was a work in progress - love more, serve more, live more.  And in order to do those things, my blog had to take a backseat for the moment.

And then the doubts started pouring in.  What is my purpose?  What if my good enough isn't good enough?  What if a wrong perception causes someone else to doubt who I truly am?  Self-doubt is a dangerous path.  One that I'm trying desperately to detour from.  Why is it so much easier to believe the negative rather than the positive?

But through the fog of funk, I have been reminded time and time again (and maybe you need to hear it too!) that we were put on this Earth for a reason. Even if we have royally screwed up, God can still use us!  Isn't that awesome?! If we are still breathing, we still have a purpose and that is exactly what I needed to hear. The wait was definitely worth it!

I've got so many things I want to share with you!  Things I've learned (and am still learning!), places we've been, and, YES, finally the house remodel!

If you are in a season of waiting, hang in there and press on!

It feels so good to be back!  What have you been up to during my little blog break?  I can't wait to re-connect with everyone!
